NBEMS Diploma Courses

NBEMS administers Diploma courses in 8 disciplines of modern medicine through its accredited institutions. The duration of the course for Post-MBBS candidates is 2 years.

Admission and Counseling:

Post-MBBS trainees get admission to the 2-year Diploma course after successfully qualifying the NEET-PG examination conducted by NBEMS. NEET-PG is conducted annually as per the prescribed schedule.

Merit-based counseling for admissions to the 2-year Post-MBBS Diploma Programme is administered by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) of DGHS, MoHFW, Govt. of India, along with counseling for admissions to various MD/MS/PG Diploma courses.

Registration as NBEMS Diploma Trainee:

After opting for a seat in the 2-year diploma courses, the trainee is registered with NBEMS for Diploma training in the respective specialty.

The eligibility of the trainee for the NBEMS Diploma programme is determined based on the criteria prescribed in the information bulletin for the NEET-PG examination. Upon meeting the criteria and submitting the required application with prescribed documents to NBEMS, the trainee gets registered. A “Letter of Provisional Registration” is issued and communicated to both the trainee and the respective training institution.

The eligibility of the trainee for NBEMS Diploma programme is determined on the basis of prescribed criteria in the information bulletin for NEET-PG examination. On successfully meeting the criteria and submission of required application with prescribed documents to NBEMS, the trainee gets registered with NBEMS. A letter to this effect in the form of a “Letter of Provisional Registration” is communicated to the trainee and his/her training institution.

NBEMS Leave Rules and Stipend:

  • Leave Rules: The training of NBEMS Diploma trainees is governed by NBEMS leave rules. Trainees must thoroughly acquaint themselves with these rules, as excess leave beyond the prescribed limit will lead to an extension of training. This extension might affect eligibility for the NBEMS Diploma Final Examinations if it goes beyond the cutoff date, or lead to the cancellation of registration.

  • Stipend: All Diploma trainees are paid a minimum stipend as per guidelines prescribed by NBEMS for the entire duration of training (including eligible leave). However, no stipend will be paid for any period exceeding 24 months if the training gets extended due to excess leave.

However, they shall not be paid stipend for a period more than 24 months if in case their training gets extended due to excess leave availed by them.

Curriculum and Training:

During NBEMS Diploma training, trainees are posted to different operational areas of the specialty concerned as per the guidelines in the curriculum. Detailed course structures, training areas, posting schedules, and examination syllabi are published in the programme-specific curricula.

The training institution conducts academic and bedside teaching as per NBEMS guidelines. Trainees are required to maintain an e-logbook of cases observed/attended, journal clubs, and seminars presented. A regular review of the e-logbook by the mentor/guide is mandatory.

All NBEMS Diploma trainees are provided with the training by the respective training institute as per prescribed curriculum. The training institution shall conduct the academic teaching and training including the bedside teaching, if applicable, as per prescribed guidelines of NBEMS. The trainees are required to maintain an e-log of cases observed/attended; Journal Clubs/Seminars attended/presented etc as per the format specified in their e-Doctor Log book. A regular review of the said e-logbook by the mentor/guide of the trainee is a mandatory requisite.
